Toaster pastries you can feel good about

Can toaster pastries be good for you?

Wherever you shop for groceries there are always brightly colored packages everywhere just filled with high sugar, high preservative “foods”.

And of course your family gravitates toward these items. They are bright, colorful, look fun….

Is there a healthier option?

Although these foods look fun, they are rarely healthy… with homemade toaster pastries you can give them what they like and know they are a healthier option.

Start out with my video for perfect pie dough.

That will be your base for these amazing alternative to the store bought toaster pastries.

Ready … set.. lets make toaster pastries!

Once you have your pie dough made and has refrigerated for at least 2 hours…you can begin the easy process to make your toaster pastries.

You will need the following to assemble your pastries:

Ingredients:

1 cup jam(any kind homemade or organic, your choice)

1 Tbs Cornstarch

That’s it… now you can begin to make your pastries.

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
  2. In a small saucepan combine your jam and cornstarch, mix well and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat so mixture is just a simmer and cook stirring for 3-4 minutes. Set aside to cool to room temperature.
  3. Roll out 1 dough round of your previously made pie dough into a rectangular shape. Cut into 8 equal squares or circles. Repeat with a second dough round, cut another 8 squares or circles. On the first 8 square/circle spread out a heaping teaspoon of your cooled jam mixture. Top with the second square/circle. Crimp your edges to seal. You can use a fork to crimp your edges but I have found the edges seal very well using a crimping tool. This is the tool that I personally use https://amzn.to/3L6a205.
  4. After your pastries are assembled, place on parchment lined baking sheet.
  5. Bake at 425 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Remove from parchment and cool completely. Pastries can be frozen and warmed in a toaster or toaster oven.

** If you prefer “frosted” toaster pastries, simply mix 1cup powdered sugar and 1-2 tbs vanilla coffee syrup…drizzle on the pastry tops.
